Acrylic on stoneware clay, plastic straw 31 x 25 x 20 cm I intended to show that loneliness not only affects emotions but health as well. The cigarettes show how smoking 15 cigarettes a day is as deadly as loneliness (Tate). The rough brushstrokes represent the figure’s troubled life. The cracks show that she is empty and feels unfulfilled; the hole symbolizes her impending death. The roots of dyed hair show that we can’t ignore loneliness by covering it up. Thus, this work establishes that isolation is not only uncomfortable but dangerous as well.
